The SYTG is a young theatre group run by Bunbury Banter, an award-winning theatre company based in Dumfries and Galloway.

The group is taught by director and actress Ali Anderson-Dyer, with regular special guest workshops led by experienced professionals from stage and screen.

By joining the SYTG our students learn essential life skills that will stay with them forever, and have the opportunity to develop their theatrical skills through games, improvised, devised and scripted work, physical theatre, clowning and stage combat, Each year they also create a media project, which previously has included radio plays, commercials, short films and ‘mockumentaries’.

Our students develop excellent communication skills, grow in self-esteem and confidence, creativity and imagination; and make new friends, all while having fun!

We welcome children of all abilities from the age of 11 to 16 years to our unique weekly classes which usually meet at the Thornhill Community Centre (we also provide free transport from students from Sanquhar) but, for now due to Covid-19 we meet online every Monday during term-time at 4:30pm.

Facilitated by an award-winning local theatre company, the classes involve more than just drama, encouraging students to see themselves as storytellers and offering them experiences such as making plays, films, animation or radio drama; as well as engaging with visiting theatre professionals from all over Scotland.
